In today’s fast-paced world, productivity often gets confused with busyness. The more you’re doing, the more productive you appear. But is that really true?

We all have the same number of hours each day, and I don’t believe we need to maximise those hours to be successful. In fact, trying to focus on too many things often reduces how much I actually get done each day, and I found that busyness often led to overwhelm.
For me, being busy is about activity, whereas being productive is about intentionality. Productivity focuses on outcomes, not outputs. It’s about aligning time and energy with what truly matters to you.
I’ve experienced firsthand the trap of thinking I needed to do everything to be successful. But I’ve come to learn the most successful people aren’t the ones who do it all—they’re the ones who focus on the right things at the right time and let go of the rest.

Here are some strategies I use in my personal life and with my clients:
- Impact Over Activity Not all tasks carry equal weight. Focus on high-impact activities that align with your goals and values. This is often referred to as the 80/20 rule: 80% of results come from 20% of your efforts. Identify your 20% and make it your priority.
- Align with Your Values Productivity is most effective when it reflects what’s important to you. Take the time to clarify your values and ensure your actions are aligned. Whether it’s family and relationships, career growth, or personal well-being, let your values guide your priorities and how you spend your time.
- Embrace Imperfection Perfectionism can be a productivity killer. I embrace the philosophy “done is better than perfect.” Instead of striving for flawless execution, focus on progress and keep moving. Remember, consistent small steps lead to significant change over time.
- Prioritise Rest and Recovery Rest isn’t a luxury—it’s a productivity tool. When you’re well-rested, you’re more focused, creative, and efficient. Make time for activities that recharge you, whether it’s exercise, meditation, or simply unplugging for a while.
